International Women’s Day

My daughter wrote this poem to celebrate this day…. she wrote it several years ago, but I love it and wanted to share it with you.

For centuries, you’ve been a muse

Abused for shape and form.

You’ve worn a label on your head,

Forlorn, you’ve stumbled –

Head over heels,

To feel like you’re only ever second best.

A quest for strength is never fair,

And what you wear does not attest,

The heart that lies beneath your breast,

Which pumps and beats and so then swells

And in good time the tale it tells

Your truth, the proof that you have lived

Shrouded in a veil of mystery, a history

That’s full of broken promises

And prejudiced minds.

Enshrined with doubt – don’t get caught out:

We’re equal. Feelings are mutual and

You’re spiritual, unequivocal.

For blood is blood and flesh is flesh;

But to be alive is to be blessed.

Standing tall you will not fall,

Victim of weak resolve or fragile minds

Instead, stand bold and then you’ll find

A strength beyond humanity,

A force that holds like gravity,

A shared understanding that equality

Is a cause

Worth fighting for.

February Update

I am gradually collecting together more time to paint, and managed to achieve these two pictures this month.

Both are multimedia pieces on canvas and show my love of the big cats, and their cubs. Both have an acrylic base, with oil paints over. Neither picture are particularly representative of the colours! They have both turned out paler than the originals and not nearly so vibrant. Hey ho, one day I will conquer the art of photography! If you have any advice on taking better photos, it would be much appreciated!

All my pictures are available to purchase if you are interested.

New style try-out

I thought I would try a different style – a little more abstract than usual and far less detailed! This is the result! This giraffe was great fun to do and turned out better than I expected!

The tiger too was a new attempt at doing things differently. Both good fun!

The giraffe is on 40 x 50 cm canvas and the tiger on 40 x 40 cm canvas and both are painted in oils.

I apologise for the camera quality – both pictures are more distinct in real life!
